Introduction: The Mountains of the Moon, fist so called by English explorers seeing the mountains huge glaciers shine in the moon light, lies on the border between Uganda and Congo. Locally named the Ruwenzori (or Rwenzori) the mountain range covers a distance of 40km east-west and 80km north-south with several peak around 5000m height. The trek is designed to fit both hikers exploring the central peak as well as climbers to reach the main peaks. Mount Stanley, the highest mountain of the range, and the third highest in Africa exists of three single peaks, which can be reached by glacier route with short mixed rock sections. The region covers some of the most unique vegetation of Africa, if not the world, Africa’s biggest and possibly only real remaining glaciers, is fairly remote and offers great hiking and climbing opportunities.
